Burke and Updike Receive All-Conference Honors
COLUMBIA -- Freshman Rachel Updike and senior Mary Burke have been named to the 2012 All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team as announced Wednesday by the league office. The honor is the third in Burke's career and the first for Updike.
Both Burke and Updike are among five gymnasts in the conference to be recognized on multiple events. Burke received all-conference honors on bars and in the all-around while Updike was recognized on vault and floor.
In her senior season Burke boasts an average all-around score of 39.191, and she has reached her career-high all-around total of 39.475 twice this season to rank 12th in the nation. Burke also boasts a 9.860 RQS on the bars, with her personal-best set at 9.900. She was named Big 12 Gymnast of the Week three times this season as well.
A nine-time Big 12 Newcomer of the Week selection, Updike set a career-high score of 9.950 on vault and 9.925 on the floor exercise. She is ranked eighth in the nation on floor with an RQS of 9.900. Updike's nine weekly conference honors this season mark the most for any gymnast in the conference, and the most for any gymnast in Mizzou history.
The 2012 All-Big 12 Gymnastics Team is comprised of the top three conference gymnasts with the highest regional qualifying score (RQS) in each event and two all-around competitors. The RQS figures are based off of the final regular-season GymInfo rankings.
The gymnasts will have a final chance to compete within the conference this Saturday at the 2012 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship in Norman, Oklahoma.
