Businesses Hope Concerts Liven the District
Thursday's Block Rock concert was the first of five outdoor shows the Blue Note has planned for the summer, and local business owners such as the Blue Note's Richard King believes outdoor concerts are key to drawing more people downtown.
"The number one thing is it's going to bring more people downtown, and usually when you have more people coming downtown I think those people tend to peak into other shops," said King.
However, getting people downtown isn't the only problem. There has been a recent increase in the number of vacancies downtown, but Ruth Lahue, owner of My Secret Garden, thinks the advantages of being downtown will turn these for lease signs into sold signs.
"I want to just run my business the way I want it, and I want to display my products the way I want to display them. Downtown offers me that opportunity."
