Businessman may Challenge McCaskill
JEFFERSON CITY (AP) - Missouri's Republican U.S. Senate race could get a surprise candidate who has the ability to put some of his own cash into a campaign.
John Brunner is chairman of the health-care products company Vi-Jon Inc., based in St. Louis. Brunner confirmed Tuesday to The Associated Press that he is taking a serious look at running against Democratic U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill.
So far, just two Republicans have entered the 2012 Senate race -- former state Treasurer Sarah Steelman of Rolla and St. Louis attorney Ed Martin, who ran unsuccessfully for Congress last year. St. Louis area Congressman Todd Akin also is considering a Senate bid.
Brunner says he is concerned about the economy and federal debt and believes his business principles could help the country.
