Bustamante Attorneys Motion to Bar Evidence from Trial
JEFFERSON CITY - Public defenders filed a motion to bar statements made by alleged teenage murder suspect Alyssa Bustamante.
In fall of 2009, authorities charged the then 15-year-old Bustamante in the death of her 9-year-old neighbor Elizabeth Olten.
Bustamante's attorneys Donald Catlett and Charles Moreland filed a motion Wednesday to supress any statements made by Bustamante to law enforcement officers. The motion claims interrogation of Bustamante was "inherently coercive as applied to a person of the defendant's age, education, background, and physical and mental condition at the time such interrogation occured."
A judge has not yet ruled on the motion.
Bustamante is being tried as an adult.
