Cardinals Look to Turn Division Lead into Title
ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Cardinals squared off against the Washington Nationals today. The Redbirds wanted to turn their two game Central Division lead into a division title as they close in on the post season.
The Cards would have to go through Jordan Zimmerman, who was looking for his 20th win of the year.
In the top of the first, Bryce Harper was up to bat and hit it to left center field. Holliday can't quite come up with the catch and the Nationals go up 1-0.
Moving to the bottom of the 4th with two on, Yadier Molina hit a single right up the center. Holliday and Adams would score. Molina is then safe at first after thinking about taking second base.
The Cardinals would take the lead at 3-1 and wouldn't look back.
During the bottom of the 6th, the hot Matt Adams was up to bat. He hitsa deep home run to right field off Zimmerman. That was Matt Adam's 17th home-run this season.
The St. Louis Cardinals win this one 4-1, and the magic number for the Redbirds is now 2.
