Cards Fall Into Last
The team not only lost its fifth straight, but Cardinals starting pitcher Anthony Reyes lost his fifth straight start, making him 0-5 on the season. This marks the first complete series since the tragic death of Cardinals relief pitcher Josh Hancock, and the Cardinals were swept in the series by the Brewers.
The Cards' offense only managed five hits on the day. Despite the five hits, the team still out hit its opponent by one. The Brewers had four hits in the contest, but the difference in the game was the Cardinals left nine runners on base and the Brewers only left five runners on base. Cardinals leader Albert Pujols had over half of the Cardinals hits with three.
In their three game series against the Brewers, the club only produced three runs. Due to the five game losing streak, the Cardinals have dropped into last place in the National League Central. The team's next game is Friday against the Houston Astros at Busch Stadium as the Cards open a six game home stand.
