Cards' Interim Manager Loving the Hot Seat
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Joe Pettini says his three days filling in for ailing Cardinals manager Tony La Russa have been "a blast."
The Cardinals' bench coach is running the team while La Russa recovers from the shingles. Pettini managed in the Cardinals' farm system. He led the Cardinals to a pair of wins during a three-game series in Chicago earlier this week.
Pettini says it's taking him some time to get comfortable managing again. He consults with La Russa regularly and tries to do things the way he would in most cases.
The Cardinals led the defending NL Central champion Reds by 1 1/2 games when they opened a series Friday in Cincinnati. La Russa might rejoin the team after the series.
