WALNUT RIDGE, AR. - The William Woods University men's soccer team stretched its winning streak to five games on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Williams Baptist College. Marcelo Carreiro (Curtiba, Brazil) scored his seventh goal of the season to pace WWU to the win.

The Owls forced a couple of saves early in the match from Hector Vera, but the offensive chances were sparse in the middle third of the first stanza.

WWU opened the scoring in the 38th minute, immediately following a sub for both teams. Luca Stroeter (Sao Paulo, Brazil) found Carreiro at the top of the penalty box, with the senior beating Vera.

The Owls had one chance to double their lead in the second half, but Ryan Mann (Florissant, Mo.) saw his shot saved in the 84th minute.

Dillon Snyder (Boise, Idaho) picked up the shutout for the Owls, although he was never seriously tested. The freshman didn't record a save in the match, with WWU holding an overall edge of 7-6 in shots.

William Woods stays on the road for its next match, an AMC tilt against league newcomers Benedictine University at Springfield. Kickoff for the match is set for 5 p.m.
