Celebration of Life Service Set for Dr. Eliot Battle

COLUMBIA - Missouri United Methodist Church announced Thursday it will hold the "Celebration of Life" service for Dr. Eliot Battle Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary. A reception will follow the service in the church's Multipurpose Room. Battle was best known in Columbia for his leadership in the community and his role in desegregating the Columbia Public Schools. He passed away Tuesday night due to injuries from a car accident.

"We lost another Missouri UMC saint, Eliot Battle. He fought the good fight and finished the race. May he rest from his labors in the peaceful embrace of our Lord Jesus," wrote the Senior Pastor of Missouri United Methodist Church Reverend Amy Gearhart on Facebook.
