Census Reports Nearly 17% of Missourians Live in Poverty
COLUMBIA- The Census Bureau released a report this week revealing information about poverty, health insurance, and average income for Missouri.
According to the report, one in six Missourians live in poverty. The national poverty rate is 15%, slightly less than the show-me state.
Noted in the report, workers impacted by the recession account for the increase in Missourians without insurance. Now, approximately 850,000 Missourians do not have health coverage. This number is double what it was ten years ago.
Finally, the Census Bureau reported income in Missouri decreased by $8,000 over the past decade, now sitting lower than the national average income amount.
