Centro Latino helps kids make healthy choices
COLUMBIA - Centro Latino, a community resource center, will receive a donation Thursday for its Active and Fresh Program.
Active and Fresh is a free program for kids that launched Monday.
This program helps kids make healthy decisions. The kids walk to the pool at Douglass Park and swim everyday. When they return to Garth Street for lunch, they learn to cook healthy meals.
Kids learn to use fruits and vegetables in most dishes they can make at home.
All meals are vegan and taught through a program with MU.
"I like coming to Centro Latino and meeting new kids, its much better than being home alone," said Sharon Garcia, one of the children in the program.
Boone County National Bank will donate an undisclosed amount to go towards cooking materials for the children.
