Central Methodist falls in NAIA Softball Regional Championship
COLUMBIA - The Central Methodist University Eagles softball team fell to the LSU-Alexandria Generals in the NAIA Softball Columbia Regional Championship game by a score of 6-1. The team finished its season with a 43-8 record.
The scoring began early in the top of the second inning with a two run double followed by a RBI bunt by the Generals to make the score 3-0. CMU got their own points on the board with a RBI single by outfielder Alyssa Lilly to get on the scoreboard, 3-1. LSU-Alexandria responded with solo home runs by second baseman Taylor Simon and Heather Bunn.
CMU pitcher Aubrey Utley struggled mightily against the Generals. She pitched only 3 1/3 innings while giving up five runs (four earned). The senior finished her softball career at CMU with a 94-19 career record.
On the other side of the matchup, Logan Hebert had a great effort from the mound. The Generals pitcher threw a complete game and only gave up one run.
With this win, the LSU-Alexandria Generals will qualify for the NAIA World Series.
