Central Methodist softball eliminated from NAIA World Series
SIOUX CITY, Ia. - Central Methodist University softball team's run at the NAIA Championships is over after a 4-3 loss to Oregon Tech in a 16-inning marathon game Tuesday.
Oregon Tech started the scoring off early after freshman infielder Tara Moates hit a ball to center to score Katie Virtue. The Hooties added a second run in the top of the fourth inning before Central Methodist scored after a wild throw.
Oregon Tech led 2-1 until Central Methodist evened the score at 2 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Both Oregon Tech and Central Methodist scored one a piece in the eight inning, tying the game up at 3.
According to CMU Athletics, this game breaks the record for the NAIA World Series' longest game.
Seven innings passed with no runs scored on either side. In the top of the 16th inning, Oregon Tech's Cassidy Hoglund singled to right scoring Tre Sullivan, which proved to be the game-winning run. The Eagles end the year at 45-10.
