Central Missouri Humane Society Leader Dies
COLUMBIA - The Boone County Medical Examiner's office told KOMU 8 News Wednesday 64-year-old Mary Pat Boatfield died in her home of natural causes Wednesday morning after calling 911.
Boatfield was the executive director of the Central Missouri Humane Society. She was introduced as executive director in May 2012.
"She was absolutely superb. We had quite a challenge and she came into the role about two years ago and has done a marvelous job straightening things out. She helped create a relationship with our community and she will be solely missed by everyone on the board and staff," said CMHS Board President Richard Wallace.
According to her LinkedIn page, prior to coming to Columbia, Boatfield was CEO/Executive Director of the Nashville Humane Association.
The medical examiner said Boatfield's family in Ohio has been notified of her death.
Last time KOMU 8 News spoke with her in February, Boatfield was excited to hear about a new mobile pet app that helps unite lost pets with their rightful owners.
In 2013, the humane society took in 4,736 unwanted animals.
