Centralia Man Arrested on Child Abuse, Endangerment Charges
CENTRALIA - Centralia police arrested 27-year-old Anthony J. Barnett, of Centralia, Thursday morning on two felony charges involving the abuse and endangerment of a child.
Barnett's arrest stems from an incident in which a child under the age of five was brought to the Audrain County Medical Center with "severe bruising, scratches, and other serious injuries commensurate with abuse", according to police.
The child is not a relative of Barnett's, but was allegedly in his care at the time of his injuries, and has since been temporarily placed in custody of other guardians by the Audrain County Juvenile Office.
A probably cause statement submitted to the Boone Co. prosecutor's office by Centralia and Audrain Co. law enforcememnt and social services asked Barnett be charged with a Class B felony of Abuse of a Child, and a Class C felony of endangering the welfare of a child.
Barnett is currently in the Boone Co. jail and faces a $50,000 bond.
