Charges filed for man accused of shooting at police during search
JEFFERSON CITY - A Jefferson City man accused of firing a weapon at officers searching his home was indicted by a grand jury Thursday.
Ardaris Webb Cheatham, 33, of Jefferson City, was indicted on one count of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute, one count of discharging a firearm in relation to a drug-trafficking crime and one count of assaulting a federal law enforcement task force officer.
He is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Police entered Cheatham's home on Sept. 11 to search for narcotics. Officers said Cheatham fired a pistol at them. He tried to escape through the basement, but was apprehended by police, officers said.
Police later reported finding 27 pounds of marijuana in the house, along with a methamphetamine pipe.
A witness told investigators she had purchased the gun, and she said Cheatham had fired the weapon in the past.
