BOONE COUNTY - Charges have been filed against the 26-year-old driver of a truck that collided with a Harrisburg school bus, killing teacher Brian Simpson last Thursday.

According to Dan Knight, the Boone County Prosecuting Attorney, the suspect had 5 prior operating without a valid license charges.

Brandon Brill, of Clark, Mo., was charged with murder in the second-degree, specifically felony murder, Monday afternoon. He is being held on $1 million cash-only bond.

Brill's truck was driving on the wrong side of the road when it collided with a school bus carrying four students. Simpson was pronounced dead at the scene. Brill and the students on-board the bus were transported to University Hospital in Columbia with minor to serious injuries.

The crash prompted the Harrisburg R-8 School District to cancel school last Friday, and a memorial was placed on the school's baseball field in memory of Simpson.

KOMU reported Saturday that Simpson's funeral will be held Tuesday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. Classes will begin at 8 a.m. that day, but students will be released at 11 a.m. to allow them to attend the funeral.

Update: This story has been updated with the latest information as of 7:45p.m. Monday evening.
