Chiefs Buying Into Crennel, Orton Rest of Season
KANSAS CITY (AP) -- In the span of a week, the Kansas City Chiefs fired their head coach, settled on a new starting quarterback and ruined the Green Bay Packers' pursuit of perfection. And somehow kept their faint playoff hopes alive.
The Chiefs still need to beat the Oakland Raiders on Saturday, have Denver lose to Buffalo and San Diego lose one of its last two games. But if that happens, Kansas City will play for a spot in the playoffs when it visits Denver in their regular-season finale.
Who would have thought that a week ago?
Under interim coach Romeo Crennel, and behind the steady play of Kyle Orton, Kansas City stunned the Packers 19-14 on Sunday. The victory ended Green Bay's 19-game winning streak.
