Child, 2, Drowns in Eastern Mo. Swimming Pool
ST. CLAIR (AP) - A 2-year-old eastern Missouri girl has died after wandering away from her great-grandmother and drowning in the family pool.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Harley Hedge was found Monday night in the pool near St. Clair in Franklin County. She wandered away while her great-grandmother was picking berries.
The woman, who was the child's legal guardian, told authorities that the girl said she was going to go in the house and started walking in that direction as the great-grandmother continued picking berries.
About three minutes later, the woman and other children began looking for Harley. The great-grandmother pulled her from the pool. She was pronounced dead at a hospital in Washington.
