Chinese New Year in Columbia
The year of the pig is a year of prosperity and good luck. Many celebrators viewed the day as a chance to reunite with friends and family.
"The harmony that you feel in the Chinese New Year, not so much as a loud speech, or anything, as much as getting together, having the family all together around the table, having dinner, seeing your friends, visiting all the relatives," Q's owner Chun Qian said.
"We have elaborately made dinner, and we have family reunion, in the broader sense because we have four families," celebrator Daxin Li said.
Celebrators said the Chinese New Year is more of a holiday season that lasts about 15 days rather than just one.
In Hong Kong, thousands of people flocked to the harbor to watch a parade celebrating the new year. Performers from around the world dressed in costumes and danced their way through the streets. Twenty-seven organizations took part in the parade. Seven days of new year celebrations began Saturday at midnight.
