COLUMBIA - Columbia Public Works will begin annual street repairs Monday in various areas around the city.
The road work will include the cleaning of the road surface and the application of a layer of liquid asphalt to seal cracks. This "chip n' seal" maintenance will then involve construction workers applying a layer of rock and later rolling it into the liquid asphalt.
Public Works said this method of road maintenance is cost effective, and can lengthen the life of the roadway in the long run. The cost of this maintenance is $234,000, and is one-seventh of the cost of milling and overlaying a roadbed. Public Works said the work will continue through Wednesday, August 14.
Below is a list of the road maintenance July 22nd and 23rd:
Saint Joseph from Park Avenue to Ash Street, Sussex from the Asphalt P.C.C., Mesa from Scott Boulevard to the city limits, Rothwell from Broadway to Rollins, Millcreek Terrace from the east end to the city limits, Pear Tree Circle from Southampton to the west end.
