Cicadas Not Changing Downtown Columbia Habits
COLUMBIA - Their flying and buzzing may be annoying some, but several Columbia restaurants said Wednesday cicadas have not affected their businesses. That could be because construction in the downtown area in recent years has lessened the cicada population by disturbing earth and trees. Several restaurants said the buzzing has been annoying, but customers are still coming and sitting outside. Andy's Frozen Custard said its Columbia location has not had many problems, but its Lake of the Ozarks location has a much larger population buzzing around. The cicadas hatched in early May and are expected to be gone by late June.
