COLUMBIA - The case involving former Columbia police officer Rob Sanders was heard at the Citizens Police Review Board Wednesday night. The review board met at the City Council Chambers in Columbia, but nothing was solved.
Before the review took place the Police Review Board Chairman James Martin stated tonight was about "bringing closure to Sanders' case" and clearly stated "tonight is not a hearing".
Sanders' lawyer Scott Jansen took his place at the podium and argued for his client. "A person that is fired can appeal to you (the review board) and depending on their decision they can then take that appeal to the Personal Advisory Board," Jansen said.
However the board decided these statements were not necessary.
Columbia Assistant City Counselor Rose Wibbenmeyer said, "The board doesn't make a determination on if someone is fired or not. That is not at all what the board does." Rose continued to state that no motion is required and that Jansen's statements could not be reviewed as an appeal.
