City Council Approves To Extend Hinkson Sewer Line
COLUMBIA - Columbia City Council unanimously approved an $8.1 million project Monday night to extend the Hinkson Creek sewage line.
Soon, workers will extend the Hinkson Creek sewer outfall by adding 29,000 feet of extra sewage line.
The money is coming from the 2008 bond issue. The project will help contaminants from entering the stream.
Some are worried about sanitary sewer overflows. Public Works Director John Glascock said the project won't help that, but the city is discussing two other projects to address that issue.
Columbia had 120 sewage overflows during 2010.
The construction won't begin until the city addresses the problem of sanitary sewer overflows.
