City Council to vote on public safety property tax
COLUMBIA - The Columbia City Council will vote on a proposed increased property tax.
In July, City Manager Mike Matthes proposed increasing property tax. The tax would pay for about 30 more police officers and firefighters as well as pay for equipment and other safety operations.
According to documents, the tax rate is 30 cents per 100 dollar value, spread over a time span of five years.
If the proposal passes, it would end up on the ballot in November.
