FAYETTE, MO - No. 19 Evangel defeated Central Methodist 71-61 in Heart of America Athletic Conference men's basketball action Thursday evening inside Puckett Fieldhouse.
Stephen Cotten led the Crusaders (15-5, 8-2 HAAC) offensively with 18 points which included 8-of-12 shooting from the floor. Victor Agbasi added 11 points for the visitors which shot 52.2 percent (24-of-46) from the field. J.J. Williams had nine points. Four Evangel players tallied seven points apiece.
Michael Banks, Jr. and Melvin Tillman tallied 13 points apiece for the Eagles (12-10, 5-5 HAAC).Cody Anderson contributed a career-high 11 points off the bench on 5-of-7 shooting. Elliott Black had nine points and a game-high seven rebounds. Tillman and Robert Mason each had four assists.
Central Methodist shot 42.9 percent (24-of-56) in the course of 40 minutes. The Eagles outrebounded the Crusaders 33-28, including 10-4 on the offensive glass.
Central Methodist travels to Peru State (Neb.) on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. CT.
