WARRENSBURG, MO - Shelby Garrigus and DeMarcus Jackson hit the National "A" standard in the
women's long jump and men's 100 meters, respectively, highlighting Central Methodist's men's and women's track and field athletes' performances Sunday at the Mule Relays hosted by Central Missouri.
Garrigus won the women's long jump with a mark of 5.65 meters. Also on the women's side, the Eagles' Jacqueline Anderson ran season bests, placing fifth in the 400 meters in 1:03.63 and seventh in the 200 meters in 27.13 seconds.
Adriana Romero ran a personal best in the 1,500 meters, finishing third in a time of 4:58.48. Emily Nealley was seventh in the race after crossing the finish line in 5:08.35.
Jackson won the men's 100 meters in 10.58 seconds and was one one-hundredth of a second from Edward Stewart's 2011 school record.
In other men's action, Central Methodist's Derek Freeman ran a season best in the 100 meters, finishing sixth overall in 10.94 seconds.
The Eagles' 4x100 meter relay team of Cameron Blanton, Freeman, Jackson and Marcus Lavergne placed second Sunday in a time of 41.68 seconds, qualifying for the preliminaries of the Drake Relays on Friday, April 25.
The Drake Relays take place April 25-27 and will feature Central Methodist as one of the participants.
