CMU's Tillman Named Men's Basketball Player of the Week
KANSAS CITY - Senior guard Melvin Tillman of Central Methodist was, for the second time this season, selected the Heart of America Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Tillman turned in two of the best scoring games of his career last week for Central Methodist, averaging 33.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 63.6 percent from the field, 70.0 percent from three-point range and 77.3 percent at the free throw line.
The Eagles bounced back from a loss the previous weekend to win two games, starting with a triumph over 10th-ranked Culver-Stockton in which Tillman scored a career-high 34 points to go along with seven rebounds and five assists. He also hit 13-of-19 field goals in the game, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. He followed that up with 32 points on 8-of-14 shooting in a victory at Avila to move the Eagles into a tie for third place.
Tillman will represent the conference in the running for the NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, which will be announced no later than Tuesday afternoon through the end of the regular season.
