FRANKFORT, Ky. - Central Methodist's first appearance in the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball National Championship did not go as expected, as Oklahoma City defeated the Eagles 74-39 in the first round in the Frankfort Convention Center.
The Stars who entered Wednesday looking to defend its 2012crown, have now won six straight National Championship games dating back to last season and advance to the second round to face on Friday No. 5-seed Shawnee State which downed four-seed Columbia in the second game of the day.
The first round contest against Oklahoma City was Central Methodist's first appearance in a national postseason tournament since the Division II National Championship in 2000.
Despite Wednesday's setback, the Eagles' 2012-13 campaign was the most successful for the program in 13 years as they finished 25-8.
The Green and Black, the eight-seed in the fourth quadrant, were hoping to make headway for the Heart of America Athletic Conference which entered 2013 with a 1-6 record in the Division I National Championship, but the No. 1-seed Stars displayed their might early.
