LAMONI, IA -- Day One is in the books at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Track and Field Outdoor Season Championships. The Eagle women's team is in first place with 71 points, while the men's team is second overall with 60 points.
For Central Methodist on the women's side, in the 10,000 Meter Run: Elise Schrieber took second in 42:49.88. In the 100 Meter Hurdle Prelims, Rebeca Barajas qualified for the Finals. The 4x800 Meter Relay Team of Katie Olvera, Deanna Quisenberry, Hailey Breusch and Adriana Romero was second in a season best 9:56.10. In the Pole Vault, Stephanie Atkinson placed second with a mark of 3.05 meters, and Angela Jones was third after clearing 2.75 meters. In the Long Jump, Shelby Garrigus owned the top spot with a leap of 5.76 meters, and Barajas placed second with a mark of 5.44 meters. In the Hammer Throw, Melissa Morrow took first with a toss of 46.45 meters.
On the men's side, in the 100 Meter Sprint, Carey Nolan and Jordan Mesmer advanced to the Finals. In the 200 Meter Sprint, Nolan, Mesmer and Ryan Sherman advanced to the Finals. In the 110 Meter High Hurdles, Cody Ervin, Dustin Menk, Bryan Lechner, and Drew Hinton advanced to the Finals. In the 10,000 Meter Run, Colby Lapresi placed second. In the Pole Vault, Kiefer Smith took first with a new school record mark of 4.57 meters, while Hinton got second. In the Hammer Throw, Jordan Kukal placed second. Hinton is currently in second place in the Decathlon after day one.
The final day of competition will take place on Saturday.
