CMU Women's Soccer Defeats Lindenwood-Belleville
BELLEVILLE, IL -- Women's soccer midfielder Kassi Kreek scored a season-high two goals in Central Methodist University's 5-2 win at Lindenwood University-Belleville.
"We started slow at first, but we got it together and started playing as a team as the game went on," Kreek commented.
Kelsey Vanzant gave the visitors a 1-0 edge in the second minute before assisting on Shawn Beard's fourth goal of the season in the 15th minute.
Three minutes later, Lindie Adair made the score 3-0 with an assist by Jordie Retzlaff.
After Lindenwood-Belleville's Kayla Thomas cut the deficit to 3-1 in the 32nd minute, Kreek notched her first goal of the game and the season in the 33rd minute. Nora Nordike scored the Lynx' second goal of the match before Kreek added her second score in the 89th minute off a Jen McIntyre assist.
"It was exciting," Kreek said when asked about scoring her first two goals of 2012. "I've been working towards scoring all season, and it finally happened."
The Eagles (11-5) have totaled 10 goals in the last two matches and outscored the Lynx (5-9) 9-3 in two matchups this season.
Goalkeeper and reigning Heart of America Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Meredith Brick made three saves in 45 minutes of work before Brittany Andert took over, recording three saves in the second half.
Goalkeeper Katie Snow played the full match for the Lynx.
"We need to carry the scoring over to Saturday," Kreek said in reference to Saturday's Senior Night game against No. 15-ranked Graceland University. "We have to play quickly and get out to a fast start."
