Columbia Airport Board Plans Future Expansion
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Airport Advisory Board will meet on Wednesday afternoon to discuss plans for new terminal plans, an additional airline and the impact of the transportation tax heading to vote in August.
The board will discuss plans for the new terminal, which they hope will have about 3-5 news gates. Several engineering companies are creating designs for the new terminal, it will likely be located on the north end of the airport. The advisory board will also figure a way to use the existing terminal once the new one is completed.
The 3/4% potential sales tax increase will also be a topic of discussion. Amendment 7, the state transportation tax bill, will be on the ballot August 5th.
The airport also hopes to be in contact with an additional airline as soon as this fall about increasing service at Columbia Regional.
Columbia Regional believes the expansion will be completed within the next 5-6 years.
