Columbia City Council Considers Snow Plan
The City Council's plan includes improved communication, planning, coordination, equipment and training. Specifically, the city plans to add a public information officer to communicate directly with residents, to implement a web-based tracking system to update where crews are every 15-20 minutes, and to upgrade, but not add to, Columbia's current snow removal equipment.
"We think that there may be some options that we can use to equip existing equipment rather than going out and buying a $100,000 snowplow," said a city spokesman.
The council also plans to re-examine the priority list of streets that crews clear first based on traffic patterns and schools, among other factors. Residential streets and cul-de-sacs where vehicles are parked would have lower priority.
