COLUMBIA - The Columbia City Council is set to vote Monday on a $10,000 grant from the Mid-Missouri Solid Waste Management District that could fund new recycling bins around town. Columbia Third Ward City Councilman Gary Kespohl said Sunday the council could also vote to approve $3,333 from the city to go toward four new bins. This comes from the city's agreement to match one-third of the solid waste management district's grant.
According to the proposed ordinance, $6,667 could pay for the new recycling drop-off bins, and $6,666 could pay for recycling displays. Kespohl said the displays would be city recycling signs on the bins to mark the drop-off site.
It has not been announced where the new bins will go. Kespohl also said it is possible one or more of the new bins could replace old ones.
