Columbia College Golf Places Third at Wildcat Invitational
CANTON, MO -- The Columbia College men's and women's golf teams each finished third at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Culver-Stockton College. The field consisted of six teams on the women's side and eight on the men's.
For the men's team, the Cougars shot a two-day total of 611. Columbia shot rounds of 302 and 309 and finished 22 strokes behind tournament champion Ashford (Iowa) University.
Mike Wilson was the top finisher for the Cougars. Wilson finished in a tie for sixth and shot rounds of 75 and 74, giving him all-tournament honors. Hunter Parrish (73-77, +8) tied for 10th and was just one stroke behind the four-way tie for 6th. Erik Peyton (73-82, +13) and Logan Murphy (81-76, +15) also finished in the top 20 at 16th and 17th, respectively. Levi Elder (82-85, +25) rounded out the scoring for Columbia in 34th place.
In their first ever competition, the Cougar women's golf team had a strong showing and looks to have a bright future. Columbia finished 20 shots off the lead of Ashford University after posting a two-day total of 752.
Junior Hannah Gill was the leader after the first day and finished the event just five shots off the lead, tied for second place (82-86, +25). Laken Frese (93-83, +33) also finished in the top five with a fourth place finish, earning all-tournament honors along with Gill. Ashley Fisher earned a 16th place finish with her two-day total of 191 (95-96, +48). MiKayla Knaebel (103-115) and Ashley Bridgford (109-114) wrapped up the scoring for the Cougars with 32nd and 33rd place, respectively.
