Columbia College Sends Two National Championships

Gulf Shores, Ala. - Columbia College sends its first ever representatives to the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships as the meet wraped up on Saturday.

Lindsey Martin qualified in the preliminary rounds of the women's 5000 meter run and Tommy Skosky in the men's 3000 meter steeplechase. Martin finished sixth overall with a time of 18:11 in the 5000, while Skosky clocked in at 9:26 to finish 13th in the steeplechase event.

In the final women's 5000 meter run, Martin ran in a time of 17:39 to finish seventh overall. Skosky finished 14th in the men's steeplechase final with a time of 9:46

Martin was also announced as a 2014 NAIA Scholar-Athlete Award winner on Saturday. In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
