Columbia College softball clinches share of AMC title
COLUMBIA – The Columbia College softball team extended their winning streak to seven straight games this afternoon. They defeated Park University in an AMC doubleheader by a final score of 6-3 in the first game and 4-0 in the second.
The Cougars improved to 36-5 this season and clinched a share of the AMC regular season title with a 21-1 conference record. The team also recently ranked third in the NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
Paxton Welch started as pitcher in the first game and struck out four batters. She allowed only six hits and two earned runs in 6.2 innings. Olivia Denslow went 2-2 with an RBI and Theresa DeCosty went 1-1 with two runs scored. In the second game, Lauren McCroskie struck out one batter and only allowed three hits to shutout the Pirates.
The Cougars will host Freed-Hardeman University next in their final doubleheader of the season on Thursday, April 20 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
