COLUMBIA - Columbia College volleyball coach Melinda Wrye-Washington officially announced that she has signed Katie DeBroeck to a national letter of intent to play volleyball for Columbia College beginning this fall.

DeBroeck will begin her college career in the fall after graduating from Owensville High School in Owensville, Missouri this spring. Katie is the second Owensville graduate to play for the Cougars in recent years as Jaime (Diestelkamp) Nelson hailed from Owensville and helped Columbia to a National Championship during her years before graduating in 2003.

Katie was an Academic All-State recipient in 2008, 2009 and 2010 and graduated in the top 10 percent of her class with Magna Cum Laude accolades. On the court as a defensive specialist and setter, DeBroeck was a first team all-conference, first team all-district and all-area player in 2010. Katie was ranked third in the Four Rivers Conference in assists (5.96 apg), had 166 digs (2.1 dpg) and had 30 service aces.

"Katie is a quick defensive player with a quick first step, she will bring a lot of energy to our team," said Wrye-Washington.
