Columbia Commission Bans Certain Signs
COLUMBIA - The Columbia planning and zoning commission approved an ordinance Thursday night that bans certain signs.
The ordinance bans signs that have scrolling text or symbols, use LCD, LED, or other electronic technologies, and signs located within 10 feet of a window.
A commission member said "we don't want a Las Vegas in Columbia, Missouri".
The ordinance does not affect businesses that had signs before October 2012, gas station pricing signs, or construction and safety signs.
The city council will make a final vote on the ordinance before it goes into effect.
