Columbia Daily Tribune Editor Dies
COLUMBIA - George Mazurak, longtime editor and reporter at the Columbia Daily Tribune, has died. He was 56.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports that Mazurak died Saturday at his home. The cause of death was complications from ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease.
Mazurak had been on leave from the Tribune since April after the condition -- amyotrophic lateral sclerosis -- made him less mobile.
He had been the newspaper's assistant city editor for about five years, and spent about 15 years as the Tribune's crime and courthouse reporter.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen, and a 17-year-old daughter. Funeral arrangements are pending.
