Columbia drivers deal with messy road conditions
COLUMBIA - After freezing rain and snow, Columbia drivers woke up to some messy road conditions Saturday morning.
Roads and sidewalks in many neighborhoods were covered in slush and snow. Driver John Giancola said he didn't have any problems.
"I was out last night, and 9 o'clock last night the roads were pretty treacherous," he said. "But this morning, I was out again between 7 and 7:30, the roads were in great shape. Everything was good. They had it all cleaned up. It looked like the state, county and city did a pretty good job of cleaning it up. Over on Grindstone there was snow, but it was just snow."
Columbia Public Works updated their Facebook around 8 Saturday morning saying first and second priority routes were being cleared and salted, but secondary roads were still snow and ice covered. Both Public Works and Giancola are worried about road conditions as the temperature is expected to drop Saturday evening.
"If it rains and freezes again tonight, I'm hoping it isn't as treacherous as last night," Giancola said.
