Columbia Fire Dept. Gives Away Free Smoke Detectors
COLUMBIA - Lower income individuals and families can receive free smoke detectors from the Columbia Fire Department as part of the 'Share the Light' program. The fire department coordinates the start of its give-away around the same time as Daylight Saving Time. The fire department spent $2,000 on the detectors.
The fire department also gives away carbon monoxide detectors.
The 'Share the Light' program started in 2001. Donors provide the funding to buy the detectors. The program accepts donations from residents and non-residents of Columbia.
