Columbia Fire Dept. Responds to Alarms, Sorority House Evacuated

COLUMBIA - The Columbia Fire Department responded to an alarm at MU's Alpha Phi sorority house on Providence Road at approximately 3:15 a.m. Friday. The fire department said there were reports of smoke in the basement, but firefighters did not encounter any smoke or flames after arriving.

All residents of the house had to be evacuated briefly. The fire department said there was no damage to the house and firefighters are not sure what caused the alarm to sound.

The Columbia Fire Department also responded to reports of smoke at an apartment building on Unity Drive in Columbia at approximately 12:25 a.m. Friday. The fire department said responders did not find smoke or flames at this incident. There was also no damage to the building.

A single fire truck resolved incidents at the sorority house and apartment building.
