Columbia Fire receives equipment donation for Fire Prevention Week
COLUMBIA - The Columbia Fire Department hosts Fire Prevention Week to give back to the community, but this year it was the department that received the gift.
Columbia's Firehouse Subs donated $15,000 in equipment to the department in honor of the week.
"That'll help us update our rescue apparatus so that we've got all the latest technology and tools available for the more technical types of rescues we encounter," said Assistant Chief Frazier of the Columbia Fire Department. "We're excited about that."
Frazier said the equipment is for "technical rescues," that can only be done by specially trained professionals. Those types of rescues include indivdiuals trapped underground, in trenches, steep embankments, etc.
Firehouse Subs told KOMU the money comes from customers who buy certain items in their restaurants, or agree to round their order to the nearest dollar to make a donation.
Frazier said the department is expecting the equipment soon, and is very grateful to Firehouse for their gift.
