COLUMBIA - Around 135 people showed up at the University of Missouri's Memorial Union on Friday evening to celebrate the second annual Taste of Thai event.
Community members had the chance to participate in a silent auction of Thai-themed crafts and artwork as well as sample a number of authentic Thai dishes. The benefit dinner, which cost attendees $25 per plate, was held to support its host, the Brighter Thailand Foundation.
The Brighter Thailand Foundation was started 3 and a half years ago with the mission to improve the lives of Thai youth. The foundation sponsors leadership camps which intend to teach youth five core values: honesty, citizenship, perseverence, respect, and responsibility.
The money earned from Friday's dinner will go to opening a second camp in Thailand this October, as well as sponsoring six global ambassadors to work as administrators.
