COLUMBIA - Columbia Independent School's Board of Trustees announced Adam Dubé has been appointed the next Head of School, effective July 1, 2013.

Dubé is currently the Upper School Director at Vail Mountain School in Vail, Colorado, where he has served in many roles including Middle School Director, Department Chair Coordinator, English Department Chair, and Spanish Department Chair since 2008. Prior to Vail Mountain School, Dubé had been a peer advisor, a teaching assistant, a teacher at CIS, a coach, an admissions representative, and an education coordinator. The school said in a media release it is thrilled for the experience he could bring to the school.

Dubé has a BA in Classical Languages from the University of Missouri and an MA in Educational Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.

"We are so excited to have Adam join us at CIS," said Board of Trustees Chairman John Thompson, "and look forward to working with him as we advance our school into the future."

Dubé said, "As an educator, I believe strongly in the value and benefits of an independent school education and their mission-driven focus. In a community that values education such as Columbia, CIS has the opportunity to be a leader in preparing students for success in college and in life. From its dedicated faculty and staff to its students, it is evident that the school has a bright future and I am excited to be a part of it as Head of School."

The Head of School appointment is the result of an extensive, international search led by a Search Committee consisting of co-chairs Kate Cleavinger and Sara Potterfield, and Lisa Morrissey, Laine Young-Walker, and Brian Struchtemeyer. Assistance to the search was provided by the advisory committee, CIS faculty and staff and rarents, with guidance from Educators Collaborative consultants.

"The community at Columbia Independent School needs a Head of School who can lead our school into the future with a strong vision," said John Thompson, Chairman of the CIS Board. "Our community pulled together and identified Adam Dubé as the best candidate for our school. He has the vision, enthusiasm, and commitment to education to provide an excellent educational environment, as well as the personal warmth to connect with our students, faculty, and parents."

Dubé and his wife, Beth, have three children, ages 11, 8 and 6. Adam grew up in the Midwest and has family in the Chicago area. Beth is a Columbia native and happy for this opportunity to return home. Adam, Beth, and their children are looking forward to joining the CIS community.
