Columbia Man Charged with DWI, Resisting Arrest
MACON - The Macon Police Department charged a 28-year-old Columbia man with multiple counts after he allegedly attempted to flee police while driving drunk.
Luther S. Midgyett is charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI), resisting arrest, careless and imprudent driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to register a motor vehicle, failure to insure the vehicle he was driving and exceeding the speed limit.
Early Tuesday morning Macon police tried to pull Midgyett over after he ran a stop sign.
Midgyett accelerated in the vehicle he was driving, and authorities found the vehicle off the roadway, after it had struck a culvert and street signs near Rollins Street and Hyde Street.
Police requested assistance from the Macon Fire Department, Macon County Ambulance and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Authorities transported Midgyett to Samaritan Hospital for assessment and treatment of minor injuries.
After Midgyett was released from the hospital, he was taken into police custody.
Midgyett has a long history with law inforcement dating back to 2004 including charges of burglary, theft, property damage, assault,disturbing the peace and unlawful use of a weapon.
On Tuesday Midgyett posted $1,500 bond and was released pending a municipal court date.
