Columbia Man Dead After Early Morning Car Crash
COLUMBIA - A Columbia man died in a single-car crash early Sunday morning.
The Columbia Police Department responded to the 4700 block of Richland Road around 4:40 a.m. Sunday in response to a car crash. Police said 39-year-old Columbia man Dennis Mctye was driving west on Richland Road when he lost control of his car and ran off the right side of the road. Mctye's car struck a utility pole and overturned.
Police said they believe excessive speed is a factor in the crash, but they don't know if alcohol or drugs were involved. Toxicology results are pending.
Police said Mctye was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
