Columbia man found asleep inside burning car, arrested for DWI
COLUMBIA — The Columbia Fire Department received a call early Tuesday morning about a man asleep at the wheel of a burning car.
Firefighters and police officers arrived at the 100 block of Dorsey Street at a little after 3 a.m. to find a vehicle engulfed in flames sitting in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
A witness claimed to see a Michael F. Cali slumped behind the wheel of the car with his foot on the gas while in park. He saw the car begin to catch fire and immediately pulled Cali from the car to safety.
No one was injured, and there was no damage to the nearby building. Cali was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
