Columbia Mayor Announces City Manager Candidates
COLUMBIA- Columbia Mayor Bob McDavid announced the four candidates for city manager on Friday.
The four finalists all come from outside the state of Missouri. They are Lori Curtis Luther, Mikes Matthes, Kent Myers and David Vela.
Luther is the city administrator for Waukesha, Wisconsin. Prior to joining the city of Waukesha, Curtis served as the city administrator for the city of Reedsburg, Wisconsin and the assistant city manager for the city of Overland Park, Kansas.
Matthes has been serving as the assistant city manager and chief of information officer for the city of Des Moines, Iowa since 2007. He has worked with the city of Des Moines since 1996.
Myers is the current city manager for the city of Port Angeles, Washington. He's served as city manager since 2009. Myers has also been city manager for the city of Hot Springs, Arkansas, the city manager for the city of Casa Grande, Arizona, and the city manager for the city of Converse, Texas.
Vela is the current assistant city manager with the city of Abilene, Texas. He's also served as the assistant city manager for the city of Alice, Texas.
Mayor McDavid said "I'm excited about this finalist pool. I'm confident about this finalist pool. I think they'll do a great job."
The city used Affion Public to begin its search for the new city manager. 70 applicants from over 30 states applied for the job. Affion then narrowed the candidates down to 11 semifinalists. The Columbia City Council chose the four finalists.
All four candidates will be in town from March 18 through March 20 for face to face interviews. McDavid hopes to choose the new city manager next weekend but said it could be a few weeks before the decision is announced.
